Ozarks Entertainer Jerry Prunty
Veteran musician Jerry Prunty is considered to be one of the most versatile performers from the Ozarks area. Jerry is an excellent singer. He is also an accomplished master of ceremonies as well as a natural humorist.
Jerry plays electric lead guitar, a blistering fast 5-string banjo, fiddle, keyboards, dixieland style trumpet and he is an exceptional solo drummer.
At age 17 while performing as a regular on west-central Illinois' Lamoine Valley Opry, Jerry was spotted by a talent scout for the original Ozark Opry show at the Lake Of The Ozarks. After auditioning Jerry was hired and performed there 6-nights-a-week. In addition to entertaining at the Ozark Opry theater, Jerry also performed on their television show which was taped weekly at Missouri's capitol, Jefferson City.
After Jerry's stint with the Ozark Opry, he returned to his hometown area and became a member of the popular Wagon Wheel Opry in west-central Illinois where he performed for many years.
Jerry originated his own Missouri Opry in 1982 when he and his family built their 600 seat theater in Osage Beach, Missouri where they are veterans of 18 years having performed the show six-nights-a-week from May through October. In addition to touring throughout the midwest, their winter tours have also included performances throughout Arizona, Florida and Texas.
